Death Valley Child Cancer Challenge

by Scott Evangelou on August 15, 2009

2009 has been a crazy year. We have been so focused on helping clients create more usable websites, get more traffic and increase web sales that it seems like a big blur of profit-mongering.

Recently, I looked in the mirror and said: “why am I doing all this? What about the children?”

My Higher Power had sent me a sign that I must change direction. This sign was in the form a request from a good friend to help his cause. So, I have decided to take our consultancy in a new direction for the remainder of 2009. That is, we will use our 20 years of marketing experience to bolster charity. Clients with charitable organisations will have our ears before others. And we will focus our Internet marketing expertise on the Death Valley Child Cancer Challenge.

“Death Valley Child Cancer Challenge” – sounds ominous, does it not? What is it, you ask? Well, it is Neill Glover’s dream to bicycle all 600 kilometers (372 miles) of Death Valley in April, 2010. The aim: to raise US$1 million for New Zealand child cancer with only $1 donations solicited from 1 million people.

Yes, the ride is possible. The million people are possible. I can say that because the power of social media is tremendous. And through this network, it will take only 6 levels of word-of-mouth to spread this cause.

100% raised will go to the New Zealand Child Cancer Foundation.

And yes, I am also undertaking the bicycle ride with Neill.

To my Higher Power: thank you. I saw the sign and this is the action I shall take.
