Facebook and Google PageRank

by Scott Evangelou on January 27, 2009

Google PageRank is the search engine’s algorithmic measurement of the overall popularity of a website. PageRank is measured on a scale from zero to ten. New websites automatically get a “O” and the most popular websites can reach “10″

Facebook is the social media phenomena of 2009. It has a Google PageRank of 9/10 (9 on a scale of 10). Of the 683,110 websites tracked by thegooglepagerank.com, only 380 websites have a 9/10 ranking!

Facebook’s popularity compares to the likes of Apple.com, BBC.co.uk, Wikipedia.com and CNN.com. Facebook has 150 million active users. It is the #5 website in the world for traffic. The percent of global Internet users who visit Facebook grows by 25% every 3 months.

Why has its user base expanded at such a pace?

I suggest it is simply the place to be. It’s where people hang out; where they connect with long-lost friends; and where they share thoughts, hopes and dreams.

And, it’s addictive.

Why do you go there?
