Social media grows by leaps and bounds

by Scott Evangelou on June 8, 2009

Social media mirrors human behaviour. We have a desire to hang out with people who we can interact with and share information.  Online, this need has spawned the social media world: youtube for video-sharing, Wordpress for blogging, twitter for micro-blogging, scribd for document-sharing, picasa for image-sharing and hundreds of other social networking/bookmarking/sharing services. Every day new applications appear to complement and supplement our need to “electronically socialise.”

This is an exciting time for us. Why? Because liberty reigns in this online realm. It is wonderful to see social media evolve into something that people truly want – mostly due to the true free-market nature of the World Wide Web. It is self-regulating and encourages the purest form of innovation.

I will not get political here by insisting governments keep their paws off.  Suffice to say that I am eternally grateful to all of you who help build and improve the social media landscape. Hats off to you!
